Privacy Policy
PSCOT respects your privacy. This policy explains what information may be handled when you visit pscot.com, how it is used, and what happens when you leave this site for a third-party website.
Information you provide
The public site does not currently offer visitor accounts, on-site purchasing, payment processing, public comments, or a mailing-list signup. If you contact PSCOT by email or another method, the information you choose to provide may be retained as reasonably necessary to answer you, maintain records, or address a legal or security issue.
Information handled automatically
Like most websites, the web server and hosting provider may automatically process limited technical information, such as your Internet Protocol address, browser and device type, requested pages, referring page, and the date and time of a request. This information is used only to deliver the site, diagnose problems, maintain security, prevent abuse, and understand basic site operation.
PSCOT uses a long-lived, first-party visitor cookie to estimate distinct visitors and record aggregate activity such as Reads, Previews, Downloads, and clicks to Amazon. The cookie contains a random identifier. PSCOT stores only a one-way hash of that identifier in its internal SQLite database and does not store visitor IP addresses or full browser user-agent strings for these analytics. The count is approximate because cookies may be cleared, blocked, separated by device, or unavailable in private browsing.
PSCOT may also set an essential session cookie used for librarian access and site security. These cookies are not used for advertising, behavioral profiling, or tracking across unrelated websites.
How information is used
Information is used only as reasonably necessary to operate and secure the site, provide requested content, understand aggregate readership and download activity, respond to communications, enforce site terms, investigate misuse, and comply with applicable law.
Sharing and disclosure
PSCOT does not sell, rent, or voluntarily share personal information with third parties. Limited technical information may be processed by the hosting provider, acting only as needed to host, operate, back up, or secure the site.
PSCOT will otherwise disclose information only when required by applicable law or a valid subpoena, court order, or other legal process.
Third-party websites and sellers
Some pages link to Amazon or another independent website where a work may be sold, distributed, reviewed, or discussed. PSCOT records that its controlled Amazon redirect was used, then sends you to the external destination. When you follow that link, you leave PSCOT. The third party may collect information under its own privacy policy, use cookies or tracking technologies, and process your account, payment, shipping, and purchase information. PSCOT does not receive or control your payment-card information or the third party’s handling of your personal information.
Data retention and security
Information is kept only as long as reasonably useful for the purpose for which it was collected, normal records management, security, dispute resolution, or legal compliance. Reasonable administrative and technical safeguards are used, but no website, transmission, or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.
Children’s privacy
PSCOT is a general-audience site and is not directed to children under 13. PSCOT does not knowingly request or collect personal information from children under 13 through the public site.
Your choices and questions
You may restrict or clear cookies through your browser. Doing so may cause PSCOT to count a later visit as a new visitor and may affect librarian or security functions. To ask what personal information PSCOT maintains about you, request correction or deletion where applicable, or ask a privacy question, email privacy@pscot.com.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be revised when the site, its practices, or applicable requirements change. The effective date above will be updated when a revised policy is posted.
